Sharing is caring!

***Please join our blogging challenge to change your life for the better! You’ll meet awesome people and build up a new site: You’ll learn to enjoy blogging and hence succeed in it!***
This resource is going to be useful to both newbie and established bloggers: I know starting a new site is overwhelming no matter how many times you already went through the process!
We’ll try to keep it ultimate and actionable, yet concise: The ultimate goal is to create a doable checklist, not to clutter!
So, step by step, here are the links to go through before you start your own blog!
Initial basic (can we say boring?) steps:
- Step 1: Select the domain: Our own member is building this cool tool to brainstorm a blog name (thanks @coolnameideas). Do check these things before registering and probably sleep on it. This guide on launching a site also comes highly recommended!
- Step 2: Select a web hosting and host your site. ?heck out this very helpful guide on hosting in case you feel a bit lost. Web Hosting Hub seem to offer a great deal!
- Step 3: Set up WordPress. Most hosting companies have easy visual guide or one-click WordPress integration. Here’s a step-by-step guide on setting up a blog in case you need it.
- Step 4: Select a good theme and brand identity.
- Use #MyBlogU to brainstorm a cool logo concept
- Use one of these WordPress themes, and please share share your favorite themes source with us!
My favorite theme source is StudioPress. They have great support for their themes. #myblogu

I don’t know, I tend to love the “finding a domain” part of the process, which may be why I have so many domains now. 🙂
USE one of them and join the contest!!! 😉
Hi Ann,
excellent links, bookmarked most of them for further reading.
An eBook will surely help to keep all of it in one place.
Thank you for mentioning the domain search tool, it can be a great way to brainstorm names. I guess the tool might require some fixing though as it is displaying domain names that are already registered. Perhaps fetching the domains via. any hosting provider’s API might be a good idea? And then tweaking up the results to make it customized with the query,
Looking forward to the contest,
thanks,
Uttoran Sen,
Thanks for stopping by to comment, Uttoran! Happy to hear those links are bookmark-worthy!
What is meant by “responsive design”? I hear this term a lot. Aren’t all templates responsive?
For WordPress, it’s about picking a responsive theme. No, not all of them are responsive. Most are not actually… You can use Google to see if yours is responsive: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/
Responsive design is a design that will make your blog user friendly when it is viewed on a mobile device. However, I find it sometimes really annoying and the website (if you have many tables) sometimes gets messed up. Also, if you use things such as Google Calendar for example, responsive design might actually make your site look awkward on a mobile. This is just my experience and maybe it might be fixed – there is a very good possibility that I am doing something wrong.
I already have a website/blog (www.southwestadventurer.com) but for this contest, am using http://www.javelinacowgirl.com (not set up yet) because it said it has to be a new website/blog. Javelina Cowgirl is intended to be a shopping site (selling my photo greeting cards)…my question is, is that the best type of website to use for this contest? I have another website idea that would be more of an informational site about herbs/plants and fauna of the Southwest, that would go more along the theme of my Southwest Adventurer blog site. Would that be a better site to use for the contest as posting articles and content is going to be involved, and I am not sure how that would work on my shopping site? Your thoughts are appreciated.
You can join with either… WordPress will be easier and faster to set up and customize of course, so I’d go with that option…
