How to Engage Your Site Visitors #MBUstorm #MyBlogU
Sharing is caring!
It’s a huge deal to start figuring out from the very start: It’s not enough to find the ways to build traffic to your blog: You need to make sure people actually stay for at least a moment and engage!
Most of traffic comes and goes: Most Internet surfers are lurkers. They have no time to engage with every single page they land on. Sometimes they can’t instantly see what they were looking for on your page. Sometimes their intent is different from what your page offers.
In both cases, there are still ways to attract your visitors’ attention to make them stop for a moment and give your page a second chance.
The earlier you figure out those ways, the more fruitful your traffic building efforts are going to be.
@myblogu Imagine how much your blog could do if everyone stayed and engaged. #myblogu

lot depends why/how they got there – If targeted/motivated then yr chance of engagement is higher #myblogu

Let’s brainstorm some ways that could help you engage your site visitors:
Table of Contents:
1. Structure Each Article Properly
One of the most important things in web copywriting: Your article cannot be a wall of page. Break your article into subheadings making sure those subheadings, if taken in isolation, make sense.
This will help your site visitors quickly understand the gist of the page and engage further.
I like having polls above the fold. I find they keep more people on the site longer. #myblogu

This plugin will also use your subheadings to build up table of contents where each item is clickable taking you further into the article. This is a great way to get more people read more of your article.
Our Interviews section also creates the table of contents based on your questions you ask our users:

2. Create Visuals and Visual Cues
I’ve written lots of articles on creating and using original visuals on your site. Here are a few most solid ones:
- How to Simplify & Scale Your Visual Marketing Strategy
- 13 Tools to Create AWESOME Visual Content to Enhance Your Marketing (While Saving Time)
- 10 Tools to Easily Create Animated Instructions
- Easy-to-Integrate Tools to Create Interactive and Visual Clues for Your Site Users
Don’t overuse images: But keep in mind the power of visual content. It can engage a user who had an absolutely different intent when landing on your site. It can draw attention and provoke action. Always make sure to include visual component into your content marketing strategy.
#myblogu Visuals are key for engagement, also to pull people in from social media. They have to arouse curiosity.

And of course, don’t forget the repackaging:
3. More Ideas, Widgets and Plugins!
Here are more practical suggestions from our community:
- The Related Posts plugin works very well to decrease bounce rates and increase reader time on site (thanks Priya Florence Shah @PriyaFlorence for suggesting it!). Contextual Related Posts plugin is another good option here. With it you can create a sidebar that will pop-up once the user has read through to a certain point in your article (all configurable.) So if you’re reading an article about Apple Pie, when the reader has scrolled through Β 30% of the article, you can have the plugin suggest a related article about the Perfect Pie Crusts. It’s pretty awesome (Thanks Dre Day for suggesting it!).
- “Tweet the quote” plugins let you highlight most interesting quotes and statics and also give your visitors an easy way to share them (Thanks to @jonnyswand for this tip!)
- Sumo (former SumoMe). It has a bunch of features, actually. One of them is Content Analytics which will show you how far the average visitors read your content. This way you can compare which of your techniques seem to work better! Thanks to Darmawan for this tip
Which tricks are you using to encourage more of your site visitors to stop and engage? Please share!
Relate to your audience's needs and engagement will happen π Don't, and it won't. #myblogu

Text over images – working VERY well – I got 4 email signups this morning #myblogu

@myblogu Handcuffs and restraints. Polls. Plus, pictures & videos that (hopefully) catch their attention and curiosity #myblogu
