How to Find Time for a New Site? #MBUstorm #MyBlogU
Sharing is caring!
One of the biggest problems our contestants had to face was the lack of time, quite predictably…
The thing is, for most of us autumn turned out to be a busier time than we expected and the abundance of family holidays doesn’t help either.
So how to find time to keep going?
I’ll list my own personal tips: Please add your own!
Table of Contents:
Just do it…
This rule never fails to work for me: The more work I have, the more I manage to do. The secret is to just sit down and do what needs to be done: No opening Facebook, email, Twitter until the major actionable item(s) is/are off your list.
Do it first time in the morning or do it when you are most productive: Your choice. Just don’t wait for until you have time: Do whatever needs to be done right now, at this very moment
Just do it…works for a while but first I have to get in the mindset. Creativity doesn't always come along when I want it to! #myblogu

#1 – The Procrastination Killer is "Just do It". #MyBlogU

Use MyBlogU
Seriously, our community does half of work for you: Just ask good questions.
@myblogu I had to let go of some tasks and clients that were just too time-consuming and not paying off. #myblogu

Give promises
Obviously, your client work or day job is your top priority but not just because of the money: It’s because someone is waiting for you to do that.
Use the same trick with your “hobby” work: MyBlogU is perfect for it because we have a system of deadlines that keeps you and everyone else involved in creating your content accountable.
Use the stayfocused app. When you nuke 'em there's no turning back. #myblogu

Never a lack of things to do… we tend to be "human doings" instead of human beings. #myblogu

Doing something is better than doing nothing…
Ok, so you have no time to write an article, so do something else! Just make sure you do something every day: Post a tweet, engage with someone from Twitter, answer a question on Quora, post a request at MyBlogU: Whatever you have time for.
Always do creative work when you're most creative – that's the morning for me. 🙂 #myblogu

I set up a Scapple file with a black background and 3/4 tasks per day in RED – The red on black =more urgent mentally #myblogu

Create a new to-do list every day…
Daily, before going to sleep, I create a brand new to-do list for the upcoming day where I think of new priorities, move unchecked items from the previous day, include daily routine tasks and tag all tasks using all-in-caps to quickly see which tasks stands for what activity, for example, WRITE, SEND, REPLY, etc. Here are some screenshots of my to-do list.
Suitable music WORKS for certain people too! RT @LoveSujeiry: I listen to focusing music. That helps keep me on task. #myblogu

Get help…
Being helped is not just about getting some part of your work done. Being helped is the most powerful motivation I am aware of.
Once you have someone involved in whatever you are doing, you feel much better about that project and much more willing to invest your time in it. If you are not alone, you are more powerful!
Get used to following a system/process. That way you'll start to form habits. Habits that will keep you productive. #myblogu

Minimize email and social breaks when you should be doing something else #myblogu

Trust that you can do it…
I can’t tell you how often I thought I had too much on my plate and I wouldn’t be able to handle that. But I did and the main thing is just pull yourself together and start doing things one by one.
Seeing items getting checked off on your list will be the most satisfying experience.
Find a partner…
If you are really, really swamped and there seems nothing you can do, go ahead and find a partner to share your responsibilities! It can be your friend, family member, a Facebook contact you talk to a lot or a good MyBlogU member…

My biggest struggle is prioritizing between client projects and personal projects.
I have to agree with Niki on this one. Clients vs My projects. There is a difference between working IN your business and working ON your business – you have to schedule time for both and create a balance for both – especially if you are a freelancer/self-employed.
Systems/Processes and ‘Just do it’ mentality seem to be the best motivators for me.
